Argon gaz purging is a key step in secondary steel making. Saint-Gobain Ceramics gas bubbling systems range includes both mass porosity and directional porosity types.
- AT 20 is a mass porosity type
- PLO3 is a directed porosity type based on clamped Mullite plates
- DC is a unique directed porosity type based on a special channel diffuser.
This channel diffuser is made of a Sialon based nitride bonded material, that combines an outstanding thermal shock resistance and metal corrosion resistance and is not wetted by steel or iron oxide. Metal infiltration is thus minimal, what in turn reduces cleaning by lance and increases significantly the service life. Channel openings are kept cleaner than with usual materials, contributing to a good regularity of bubbling throughout the life of the plug

Furthermore, the DC plugs are equipped with a double safety sytsem: an optical wear indicator allows easy detection of wear limit through a geometric change and an integrated safety device stops any infiltration that could occur, minimizing the risk of accident.
The extend of the range of our gas purging systems and seating blocks allows us to respond to all the different installation conditions such as :
- all lining depths for the ladle bottom
- round or square seating blocks
- need to change the plug during the ladle campaign
- preassembly possible

Our best performing seating blocks are based either on Mono Chromcor® or Mono Pural M, two high alumina pre-formed castables.
