Coal and Petroleum Coke Gasification
Saint-Gobain has been the leader since the late 70's in refractory linings for coal gasification units and we have developed and patented a complete range of chromium oxide-alumina-zirconia refractories, marketed as ZIRCHROM® for the hot face layer. Several compositions especially engineered for low or high wear areas are available and are steadily improved by on-going research and development.
Our chromium oxide
ZIRCHROM® bricks have been succesfully installed as hot face material in more than 15 reactors. They are also suitable for new solid fuels like petroleum coke. The picture on the right is showing a reactor cone made of Zirchrom®900 chromia refractory for slagging gasifier.
Alumina-chrome Chromcor® 12 and Andalusite based MS6 mullite bricks are available for the back up layers.
Bubble alumina RI 34 or Alundum® AN599 Insulating fire bricks are used for thermal insulation.

Oil / Gas Heavy Residues Gasification
We manufacture dense and bubble alumina bricks, special shapes, mortars and castables for gasifiers with gas or oil and heavy residues feedstock.
Our high alumina bricks AL 100 or Alundum® AH 199B and Alundum® AH 199H are commonly used for the hot face. Their high density and low porosity fit the requirements of ever changing operating conditions.
Bubble Alumina based Insulating fire bricks RI 34, Alundum®AN599 or insulating castables CA 333, RI 34 ,RI 34 HR are also available along with suitable regular high Alumina castables: CA334
